This Is Water
In the video This Is Water by David Foster Wallace is very interesting to me. Most people who graduate college get a nine to five job and deal with boredom, routine, and petty frustration. almost every single day people do the same thing, and most people look towards things negatively, David Foster Wallace calls the negativity our natural default setting. So he says instead of having petty frustration and being cranky people should look at things differently, we all have awareness and a choice by the way we act. We don't know everything all the time so judging people in a grocery line just because your frustrated is not right, their situation may be much worse than ours.

I like that you pointed out how most people look at many things in life negatively. I think that the video reinforced your thought in that we all have a default setting in which we view certain things as always being bothersome, such as the trip to the grocery store, instead of looking for the positives that come from this interaction with society. You did a great job summarizing the main points in the video, but I might have continued on with your thoughts a little more to add some depth. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteI think that all the points Wallace made about how people should turn off their negative thoughts and frustrations and turn it in to positive energy is kind of childish. With the size of the world today and how connected it is through world travel and social media there are bigger things to take into consideration rather than simple worries and problems in life.
ReplyDeleteI like how you included that he calls the negativity our natural default setting because most people just make assumptions and do not think that something else could be wrong and going on in their lives. I would try to add more thoughts and go a little more into it but overall good job.
ReplyDeleteI like how you pointed out things in the video and effectively summarized it. I like how you pointed out how most people look at thing negatively. But i might add, continue on in your thoughts and summarizing on the video. other than that, Great Job!
